Ugo is a Partner and heads the Emerging Technologies, Fintech & Private Equity Practice Group. His leadership in these critical areas is underpinned by extensive experience and a deep understanding of the sector.

Ugo’s practice focuses on the intersection of law and technology, offering strategic advice and guidance to clients navigating the rapidly evolving technology sector. He possesses a keen understanding of cutting-edge technologies including blockchain, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, enabling him to provide valuable legal counsel in this dynamic landscape.

Leveraging his prior nine-year stint as in-house counsel in two prominent Nigerian banks, where he rose to Regional Legal Manager, Ugo brings invaluable experience in transactional law, compliance, and regulatory affairs within the financial industry.

Ugo’s dedication and expertise have garnered significant recognition from Nigerian regulatory bodies. In 2019, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) appointed him to a committee tasked with implementing the financial technology roadmap of the Nigerian Capital Market. Notably, he played an active role in drafting the SEC Crowdfunding Rules, released in February 2021 showcasing his profound impact on shaping legal frameworks within the financial sector.

A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he is a member of the Nigerian Bar since 2004. He obtained a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas Law from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, in 2009.

Upon joining Perchstone & Graeys in 2015, Ugo undertook specialized training in ICT law at a renowned firm in India. This training provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the complex legal landscape surrounding information and communication technologies, particularly the intersection between financial technology and banking.
