Akhigbe graduated from the University of Benin in 2007, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2008. Following his call to the Bar, he joined one of the foremost law firms in Benin City, Edo State. Over his career, Akhigbe has developed a voice as a passionate advocate for legal reforms in the public sector, to meet with present day realities and international best practices. Akhigbe has garnered over a decade of experience providing strategic advice and representation to clients in complex matters at the various tiers of court.
He plays a dual role as coordinator of the Benin City office of the firm as well as the team lead of the firm’s Private Client group. Akhigbe led a team of lawyers undertaking a litigation audit of over a thousand ongoing casefiles at a State Ministry of Justice, as part of the process of reforming that state’s justice sector.
During a recent secondment to a leading infrastructure law firm in New Delhi, India, he had the opportunity to deepen his experience in the area of infrastructure law; particularly the electricity sector, smart cities, and Public Private Partnerships. Since then, Akhigbe has been a champion for the revamp of the Nigerian Power Sector by infusing the Indian electricity model.
