About the Role
The Senior Associate will play a vital role in our Corporate and Commercial Law practice group, providing high-quality legal advice to our clients, handling complex corporate transactions, advising on commercial matters, and contributing to the growth and success of the firm. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of corporate and commercial law, excellent legal skills, and the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing expert legal advice to clients on complex corporate and commercial law matters including company formation with foreign participatory interest, mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, joint ventures, and commercial contracts.
• Leading and managing teams on transactions and projects, ensuring timely and effective delivery of legal services.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with the firm’s clients, including identifying new business opportunities and expanding existing relationships.
• Collaborating with other practice groups to deliver comprehensive legal services to clients.
• Staying up to date with industry trends and developments in corporate and commercial law.
• Mastering the commercial law principles and precedents, including the provisions of the relevant laws and regulations such as the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020, the Investment and Securities Act, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, and other related laws and regulations, and applying this knowledge to provide legal advice, corporate secretarial, and capital market services to clients.
• Speaking and networking at events, conferences, and seminars, including delivering presentations and workshops on corporate and commercial law matters.
• Mentoring and supporting junior lawyers in their professional development.
• Contributing to the development of the firm’s knowledge and expertise in corporate and commercial law, including authoring articles, blog posts, and other though leadership pieces.
• Participating in business development initiatives, including identifying new business opportunities, and building relationships with potential clients and referral sources.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree from a reputable institution. Master of Laws (LL.M.) in corporate finance is a plus.
• Admission to practice law in Nigeria – a B.L certificate.
• Minimum of 9 years of post-call experience in corporate and commercial law practice, preferably in a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian corporate law, commercial transactions, and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven track record of managing and delivering complex legal projects with precision and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
